Description
Tilia Cordata or the Lime Tree is a large medium growing, native tree that grows best in moist soil. It will also grow in rocky, infertile soils, but much slower. The Lime Tree is the most popular tree used for pleeching or avenue tree planting. Its leaves bear a distinctive heart shape, and small green / yellow heavily scented flowers in clusters appear early summer. Insects are attracted to the striking scented flowers. Small leaved lime trees can reach a height of 30m when fully mature and useful in windy sites as windbreak, screening, pollarding and coppicing, parkland areas.
Where to Plant
Plant full sun, clay, chalk or limestone. Lime Tree can be drought tolerant, easy to grow.
NOTE: ScotPlants Direct can only supply Bareroot Trees when they are dormant from November to March but you can PRE ORDER now to ensure an early delivery date at the start of the season in November.
