Description
Salix caprea Kilmarnock Willow is a deciduous weeping tree grafted on an approximately 1.2-1.5m head so the height will always remain the same making this an ideal tree where space is limited. The Kilmarnock Willow is fully hardy requiring little care.
It has arching branches forming a mophead type of mound in winter. Springtime sees the Kilmarnock willow produce yellow fluffy / fuzzy catkins opening to delicate flowers with yellow antlers before the new foliage appears.
Where to Plant
Plant in moist but well-draining soil, full sun to partial shade. Trim the tips of the branches that are reaching the ground about ½ inch away from a dormant bud so that the branch tip is about 6-12 inches above the ground. Ultimate height and spread 1.5-2m in about 20 years.
