Ribes uva crispa Green Gooseberry Hinnomaki Green Bareroot
PRODUCT CODE: RUHG-BR-40/60
Characteristics
Hinnomaki Green Gooseberry is ideal for gardens and allotments. It is a popular mid-season, vigorous variety. Great disease resistance especially to powdery mildew.
Hinnomaki Green Gooseberry is olive green in colour with excellent sweet, aromatic flavours. Great just to pick and eat straight from the bush when fully ripe.
Where to Plant
Plant full sun or very lightly shaded frost-free spot. Would benefit from some shelter from strong winds. Prefers a slightly acid, moist but well-draining, moist soil.
Before planting make sure the roots are well soaked in water. Plant in a hole that is twice the diameter of the rootball. Be a bit generous and mix in some good soil improver and fertiliser, fill and make sure that it is regularly watered until established.
Gooseberry fruit is produced on the previous year’s shoots. Cut back by one-half after planting. Then each year beginning from the third year, shorten the leading shoots by one-half and remove the branches from the centre of the bush. Shorten the side shoots from last year’s growth to 2 buds. Do not forget to apply fertiliser in spring.
**Scot Plants Direct can only supply bareroot plants when they are dormant during the winter months from November to April annually
