Description
The Japanese Cherry is one of the most popular and most planted cherry trees in Japan. It is a beautiful and elegant, medium sized cherry tree, covered in fragrant small pink/ white flowers from April onwards.
The Yeodensis Japanese Cherry tree is ideal for gardens as it is a small deciduous tree with broad spreading branches and stunning green ovate leaves when young. Its growth is quite spectacular with the tree at first a large shrub and then forming into a tree. The colour of its branches is brownish /red. Spring foliage leaves are yellow/green, and fall foliage varies from bright red or yellow. The Somei Yoshino Cherry is unusual in that its wood colour will be dark, almost black.
Where to Plant
Plant full sun, all aspects, well-draining, moist soil. Prefers loam, sandy, clay types, but will tolerate most types if amended properly. Ultimate height and spread 12m x 8m in about 20-50 years
