Description
Ilex Crenata is an ideal alternative to Box (Buxus Sempervirens) hedging if one is worried about Box blight. This new evergreen shrub can be shaped into any form when mature, easy to grow and makes an outstanding hedge similar to Buxus. Ilex Crenata is resistant to box blight, leaf scorch.
Ilex Crenata has small rich glossy green leaves and is tougher and hardier than Buxus which is great for those northern climates. It also regenerates from old wood.
Ilex Crenata is easy to grow and maintain and is tolerant of most soil situations, other than wet soils, and can be in sun to shade.
Where to Plant
Plant full sun to partial shade, moist but well drained soil. Ilex Crenata will tolerate most soil types, but prefers chalk, loam, clay and sand. Water well during dry spells Ultimate height and spread 1-1.5m x 1-1.5m in about 10 years. Recommended planting per metre approximately 4-6 plants. Double staggered row about 5-7 per metre.
