Characteristics

The honeyberry is a recent introduction to the grow-at-home market and is set to become a popular addition to British gardens. It is actually Lonicera caerulea var. Kamtschtica, a honeysuckle bush which produces large, edible, elliptical berries similar in colour and flavour to the blueberry.  The Honeyberry is sweet enough to be eaten fresh, the berries can also be made into jam, jelly or even ice cream.

Where to Plant

Honeyberry plants should be planted in full sun to partial shade, well draining soil.  They are tolerant of most soil types and are quick to grow.  Honeyberry bushes are drought resistant when mature, also disease resistant.  Water well during the first year to especially during dry spells.  Fruits need a good supply of water for fruits to be juicy and good size.
