Description
Egremont Russet is the most popular of the russet apples known for its very distinctive “nutty flavour”. It is quite a vigorous and hardy tree, steady and reliable cropper as well, and especially suited for east of Scotland type weather. Egremont Russet is partially self-fertile but will benefit if planted with another apple or another group such as Greensleeves, James Grieve or Katy. Classed as a dessert apple, it is medium sized with a delicate ‘nutty’ flavour, with an attractive dull gold flecked with yellow colour outer skin, and when you pick it up the skin feels like sandpaper – very different but exquisite. Bite into the russet and you experience a good balance between sweetness and sharpness – What an apple!! Season of use is October – December.
Where to Plant
Plant full sun for best fruiting and development results. Water well during dry spells and remember that most fruits are 90% water. Make sure the soil or planting hole is free draining and not waterlogged. Fertilise during the spring / summer.
NOTE: ScotPlants Direct can only supply bareroot trees when they are dormant during the winter months but you can PRE ORDER now to ensure an early delivery date at the start of the season in November to March annually.
