Alnus glutinosa - Common Alder Hedge plants
Alnus glutinosa or Common Alder are fast growing deciduous native hedge plants found all over Britain especially in wet, boggy areas. Common Alder have both male and female catkins, serrated dark green leaves which make this a standout plant early spring. Alder is best planted in those moist, boggy areas. They can be in full sun or partial shade. Excellent for preventing soil erosion and for establishing tree or hedgerow planting schemes in waterlogged areas. Alder is wildlife friendly, especially for Sisken birds that feed on its winged seeds. Include in current hedgerows, or plant in those areas that are wet, somewhat boggy. Alder is also great for seaside situations, as they are tough and hardy. Excellent for preventing soil erosion and for establishing tree or hedgerow planting schemes in waterlogged areas
