Alder is an attractive, quick growing tree for wet and damp areas and native to the UK.

Description

It's Ovate to broad green shiny leaves with coarsely toothed edges and stunning catkins appearing February and April.  Alder leaves are dark green, leathery with serrated edges with a pointed tip.  Perfect for Boggy, wet, exposed sites, good as windbreak and is seaside (coastal) tolerant.  It's natural habitat ground near rivers, burns, and it loves damp, cool areas where its roots will help prevent erosion. 

Where to Plant

Birds thrive on Alder Tree catkins as a source of nectar and pollen for the bees.  Plant full sun to partial shade, poor, wet conditions.  Ultimate height and spread 12m x 4-8m in about 20-50 years.
