​Description

Alder Buckthorn (Frangula alnus), produces dark black berries, which make the perfect dies and pigments. Unlike normal Buckthorn, Alder Buckthorn's maroon stems and branches are much smoother and have zero thorns. It also has perfectly alternativing, decidous leaves along their twigs with lateral veins.

Where to Plants

With a fairly average growth rate of 20-40cm per annum, Alder Buckthorn has an ultimate heigth of 3-6m tall, and can grown in chalky/wet soils in exposed, windy, or coastal sites.
