Description

Acer palmatum Atropurpureum is a stunning addition to any garden.  It is one of the most outstanding of coloured acers and one of the hardier specimens.  They will lose their foliage in the winter being deciduous, and then burst into spring with the most stunning burgundy purple coloured foliage that says, ‘I am here’.  Then in the autumn expect the foliage to turn a vivid crimson red.

Acers are generally slow growing which make them ideal for large pots and the smaller gardens.  They are easy to maintain, and their foliage displays will make the garden glow in spring and summer and fall.

Where to Plant

Plant full sun, but not east facing or dappled shade.  Soil should be moist, fertile, and well-draining.  Will tolerate most soil types.  Approximate height and spread 4m x4m in about 20years.
